About 20 members gathered on Saturday to hear Tony Simm's presentation about his joint layout project with Edward Sissling: "Hambleton Terrace". This is their entry for the Platinum Jubilee Layout Competition, the culmination of which will be the 2mm Expo in 2030.
Tony explained the inspiration for the layout, the planning, and the construction so far. The layout portrays Rowntree Halt on the Foss Islands branch in York, but viewed from the side of the Rowntree's cocoa works. The backdrop is a terrace of houses: the eponymous Hambleton Terrace. Tony has recently made considerable progress on the houses, making use of card, home-printed brick paper, 3-d printed windows and chimney pots, and Redutex slate sheets.
Attendees were able to see the progress first hand on the two scenic boards, including Edward's fastidiously-laid track and scratchbuilt aluminium trestles. This is definitely a project to watch!
Also on show at the meeting were a rather nice gas holder and water tanks, produced by Jim Rowbottom for Laurie Adam's "Yeovil Town" layout:
